Our Story

A Legacy of Military Service and Family Tradition

Flex Family Dentistry's story is steeped in a proud tradition of military service and a deep commitment to family. The roots of this family-run practice trace back to the esteemed Dr. Jack Phass Jr., who served as a U.S. Navy Intelligence Officer in Washington, D.C., during the Korean War. After his honorable service, he pursued a dental degree from Georgetown University, fulfilling his dream by founding Phass Family Dentistry in 1968. From the beginning, Dr. Jack’s mission was clear: to provide exceptional care and maintain the highest standards of professionalism in the dental field.

As his children, Sophia and Dean, grew up, they spent their formative years working alongside him in the practice, absorbing his values and commitment to patient care. Inspired by their father’s dedication, they, too, graduated from Georgetown University Dental School. In 1990, Dr. Jack passed the torch to his children, entrusting them with the family legacy. For over three decades, Dr. Sophia and Dr. Dean continued to build on the foundation their father had established, proudly upholding his high standards, professionalism, and compassion for each patient they served.

Today, Flex Family Dentistry honors this heritage through the work of Dr. Diane Flexsenhar and Dr. Sophia Phass. Originally from Dallas, Texas, Dr. Flexsenhar graduated from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2009. She has practiced in cities across the country, including San Antonio, Austin, Memphis, and Virginia Beach, accompanying her husband’s career and raising their two sons. A proud Navy spouse herself, she understands the dedication and sacrifices military families make. In the summer of 2023, her family relocated to the Washington, D.C., area, where they chose to plant roots and build a home. Like Dr. Jack Phass, Dr. Flexsenhar’s husband serves as a Navy Intelligence Officer, continuing a legacy of service to the country.

Flex Family Dentistry is honored to carry forward the legacy of Dr. Jack Phass, offering not just dental care but a true understanding of what it means to serve—from one military family to another. In every patient interaction, they aim to reflect the same dedication, integrity, and excellence that Dr. Jack set in motion in 1968.
